Luxury Resort & Spa | Complete M&E Design & Build

Summary

The Mere Golf Resort & Spa redevelopment is representative of the type of project Hardtech Engineering Services (Northwest) regularly delivers in the hospitality and leisure sector - technically involved, design-led, and built to a standard where the quality of the finish matters as much as the performance of the systems behind it.

Project Overview

Hardtech Engineering Services (Northwest) was appointed to deliver the full M&E design and build package for the redevelopment of The Mere Golf Resort & Spa in Knutsford - a £1.3M contract carried out on behalf of TR Building Services over a ten-month programme.

The project involved stripping out and replacing the entire mechanical and electrical infrastructure across the spa facility, with Hardtech managing both the detailed design and the construction phase from start to finish.

Scope of Works

The full scope covered design and installation of:

● Mechanical supply and extract ventilation, air conditioning, and LTHW heating

● Hot and cold water services, gas distribution, and above-ground drainage

● LV power distribution and structured cabling infrastructure

● Fire and life safety systems, CCTV, and card access control

● BMS integration across all mechanical plant

● Specialist and architectural lighting installations, including automated control systems

● Sanitaryware throughout all wet and treatment areas

The Facility

The redeveloped spa introduces a new café and bar area, a first-floor gym, a range of luxury treatment rooms, and a hydrothermal spa zone - including pool plant and associated specialist equipment. A bespoke chandelier feature at the high-level reception forms the centrepiece of the arrival space, setting the tone for the guest experience throughout.

Hardtech worked directly with the client and wider design team throughout the programme to make sure the services installation aligned with the architectural intent at every stage - not just at practical completion.

Design & Technical Delivery

Gym Lighting

Our in-house design team developed a bespoke lighting scheme for the gym environment, combining feature lighting with an intelligent control system. The brief required a solution that would suit varied training uses - from group classes to individual sessions - while keeping energy consumption in check and giving the operations team straightforward day-to-day control.

Pool Plant & Hydrothermal Areas

The pool plant and hydrothermal spaces required careful coordination between structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines. Hardtech led the services design for these areas, working through the interface between the specialist hydrothermal equipment and the building systems to meet the performance requirements of each treatment zone.

Lighting Controls

Automated lighting controls were rolled out across both the architectural and feature lighting throughout the spa. The system gives the client the ability to switch between different scene settings across the building - useful for everything from routine daily operation to private events.

Programme & Delivery

The project ran to a tight programme and required active management of the construction sequence to maintain progress without compromising the quality of finish. Budget discipline was maintained throughout, with no compromise on the standard of materials or installation expected of a facility at this level.

The project was handed over on programme and to the specification agreed at the outset.
