Upgrading a building with Grade II listed status takes technical precision and a specialist mindset. As part of a broader £4.5m regeneration project for a Regional Local Authority, Hardtech Engineering Services delivered a £700k integrated mechanical and electrical package designed to bridge the gap between historic preservation and modern functionality.
The project was central to the client’s "Customer Connect" initiative, aimed at making public spaces more accessible and efficient without losing their architectural soul.
The Work: Balancing Detail and Function
Our role was to integrate complex modern systems into the historic fabric of the building. This required a high level of coordination and a "measure twice, cut once" approach to ensure every installation respected the heritage of the site.
- Electrical & Life Safety: We installed architectural lighting designed to enhance the building's features, alongside essential fire alarm systems, CCTV, and secure door access. Every component was positioned to be as unobtrusive as possible.
- Mechanical & HVAC: To improve the environment for staff and visitors, we installed advanced HVAC systems and upgraded domestic water services. These systems provide modern climate control and energy efficiency in a building that was never originally designed for them.
- Accessibility & Infrastructure: We integrated disabled alarm systems and a robust data infrastructure, ensuring the building met all modern compliance and connectivity standards.
